For the past 20 years, AID Vancouver has been at the forefront of community response to the epidemic here in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia. Our 28 paid staff and 300 volunteers strive to provide a comprehensive and integrated range of health promotion, education, and support services. BC Persons With AIDS Society www.bcpwa.org   The British Columbia Persons With AIDS Society (BCPWA) is dedicated to empowering persons living with HIV disease and AIDS through mutual support and collective action. The BC Persons With AIDS Society is Western Canada's largest AIDS organization with a membership more than 3,600 HIV + individuals. Unique among major HIV/AIDS agencies in Canada, BCPWA's Board of Directors is composed entirely of HIV+ members. Canuck Place Hospice www.canuckplace.com   Canuck Place Children’s Hospice provides specialized (pediatric) care for children living with progressive life-limiting illnesses, and their families in British Columbia. The goal of this specialized care, known as pediatric palliative care, is to enhance the comfort and quality of life for children, and their families. Canuck Place services are available to any child and their family in B.C., at no cost to them. Established in 1995, Canuck Place is the first free-standing children’s hospice in North America. To date, more than 400 families from throughout B.C. have used the services of Canuck Place. Most often, the children being cared for by Canuck Place are living with various forms of cancer, muscular dystrophy, neurodegenerative diseases, metabolic diseases, congenital birth defects, cardiac conditions, genetic disorders or brain tumours. Canuck Place is located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It is housed in a renovated heritage home, and can accommodate up to eight children and four families during their stay. Dress For Success www.dressforsuccess.org Dress for Success provides interview suits, confidence boosts and career development to more than 45,000 women in over 75 cities each year. Dress for Success is a not-for-profit organization that helps low-income women make tailored transitions into the workforce. Each Dress for Success client receives one suit when she has a job interview and a second suit when she gets the job. The Dress for Success Professional Women's Group program then provides ongoing support to help the client build a successful career. North Shore Adults At Risk new website coming soon The North Shore Adults at Risk Support Network grew out of a 1997 series of public discussions on the North Shore held in anticipation of the new Adult Guardianship Legislation and focussed on the question of how to respond effectively to issues of adult abuse, neglect and self-neglect. In 1998 the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee of BC (www.trustee.bc.ca) funded a part-time coordinator and as a direct consequence of lobbying by the Network, the public health authority created a full time position. Today the North Shore Network is one of the leading community response networks in British Columbia. Western Institute for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing www.widhh.com The Western Institute for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (WIDHH) is the largest non-profit agency of its kind in Western Canada. In operation since 1956, WIDHH strives to offer high quality services to Deaf, Deafened and Hard of Hearing individuals through innovative products, services, and programs that help to promote accessibility equal to that of the hearing public. Here are just some of our important services for the deaf and hard of hearing: employement counseling, audiology, hearing aid program, information services, communication aids, interpreter services, and a resource room. In 1969 the property at 2125 West 7th Avenue was purchased and after extensive renovations, WID moved to its new facilities in January of 1970. Services continued to expand throughout the 70’s and 80’s. Medical Interpreting Services and WIDHH Northern BC (in Prince George) both opened in 1998. YouthCO AIDS Society www.youthco.org   Youth Community Outreach (YouthCO) AIDS Society is a non-profit organization working to involve youth ages 15-29 from all communities in addressing HIV/AIDS related issues. We provide educational initiatives and support services to youth infected with and/or afftected by HIV/AIDS or Hepatitis C (HCV). As a youth-driven organization, we provide outreach, prevention and education, training, volunteer opportunities, advocacy and support for peers.
